2010 COURSE OF STUDY


In cooperation with the Division of Ordained Ministry of The United Methodist Church, Claremont School of Theology offers the Ministerial Course of Study each summer for certified candidates for ministry in The United Methodist Church who are unable to attend a school of theology full-time in order to earn the standard Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree. Course of Study classes are not available for academic credit, CEU or audit.

Included in the Ministerial Course of Study are the following programs:

  • Studies for the license as a local pastor (formerly, the license to preach).
  • Five-year course of study leading to eligibility for associate membership in a United Methodist Annual Conference.
  • The advanced course of study required for probationary membership and full connection.

HISPANIC COURSE OF STUDY


Hispanic Course of Study
is held at Claremont School of Theology, usually each January and summer. First, second and third year classes will be taught in January 2010.

LICENSING SCHOOL FOR LOCAL PASTORS


Licensing School for Local Pastors is a program of the Course of Study held at Claremont School of Theology each summer. It prepares persons within The United Methodist Church to be licensed as local pastors. The approval of the District Superintendent and Conference Registrar for Local Pastors is required to register. The four basic areas of ministry will be studied: Public Worship, Pastoral Leadership, Organization of a Parish, and Educational Ministry. Licensing School will be offered in both English and Spanish. All those with no or limited English are encouraged to register and attend..

The books required for Licensing School are: New Interpreter Study Bible (New Revised Standard Version),The Book of Worship, The Book of Resolutions, and The Book of Discipline

For other classes that might be available at Claremont, email the CST Registrar or call (909) 447-2503 and ask for the Summer School brochure. Many Summer School classes are approved for Advanced COS credit. Elective courses must be approved by the Registrar's Office.



TUITION AND PAYMENT


Course of Study Charges:
$300 per two-week module.

Licensing School Tuition : $625 for tuition, plus books, room, and board. Contact your Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry who will help subsidize a portion of the total fees.

Late Fee for Registration after May 31st: $25

Ministerial Course of Study students may make individual arrangements for payment of account balance. Any amount not covered by your Annual Conference MUST be paid in full on the day of registration.
 

HOUSING INFORMATION


In an effort to increase flexibility and convenience, a number of housing options are available for Course of Study students:

  • On-Campus Housing
    A very limited number of un-furnished apartments may be available on the Claremont School of Theology campus. For more information, contact Kathy Deskin as soon as possible at housing@cst.edu or (909) 447-2566.   

  • Dormitory Housing
    Dormitory housing will be available aone of the Claremont Colleges just south of Claremont School of Theology.  Price will be about $22-25 a day per person.  You will be able to receive meals at the college cafeteria. 

  • Hotel Claremont
    840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., Claremont, CA 91711

    For reservations call (909) 621-4831, or (800) 322-6559. Identify yourself as a "Claremont School of Theology student" for special rate. Rooms have refrigerators, bring your own hot plate, microwave oven available 24 hours a day in the lobby, complimentary continental breakfast (breads and fruit) 6:00-9:30 a.m., free shuttle service to and from hotel and Claremont School of Theology.

  • Extended StaySan Dimas

You are encouraged to talk with other Course of Study students to share housing arrangements and split the cost.


LOCATION


Claremont School of Theology is 35 miles east of Los Angeles. Major highway routes to the School are Freeway I-10 (the San Bernardino), Freeway 57 (the Orange), Freeway U.S. 60 (the Pomona), and Freeway I-210 (the Foothill). Click here for directions to campus.

Claremont School of Theology does not provide local travel from major transportation centers. The nearest airport is Ontario International Airport, from which you may catch a commuter shuttle to Claremont Inn, located one block west of the Claremont campus. Taxis are also available.
